My writing is a confession, an exploration, & a longing for untold stories.
Growing up, I'd scribble poems in the margins of my class notes. Practice my "author signature." And, of course, hoard more notebooks than my grandmother's trinket collection from Cracker Barrel.
Now, I craft poems and stories that explore our fundamental fears and desires. Whether it's a feminist retelling of a fairytale or a gut-wrenching poem confessing my own vulnerabilities, I believe that our most haunting truths make for powerful storytelling.
When I'm not writing, I'm usually playing with my goldendoodles or basically living at a local coffee shop. Welcome to my corner of the web.
My writing often explores longing, friendship and family, womanhood, and bygone stories from mythology, folklore, and legends.
As a storyteller, I'm fascinated by the weird and mystical---the dark or hidden beauty of old myths, legends, and folktales and how they might be used to reveal truths about ourselves and our modern world.
After several years of struggling with migraines, I finally accepted that chronic pain is simply a part of my life. It's not cool, it's not fair, and it's certainly not glamorous, but it is a truth that is here to stay. My writing often explores life with an ever-tired body, sometimes with dark sense of humor, and always with the effort to make invisible illness a little more visible.
Then, came the ADHD discovery, and I say "discovery" because it has most certainly always been there. But, like many others in my generation, I didn't learn about being ADHD until adulthood. Now, my hundreds of hobbies, inability to remember where my phone is (ever), and hyper-fixations finally make sense. That, and all the memes hit home, sometimes a little too much.
Inspired by my conservative, homeschooled childhood in the Bible Belt, I now have a passion for exposing toxic religion and encouraging this generation to choose love above all else. As a straight-passing bisexual woman, I also explore the hopes and struggles of the bisexual experience in my writing.
By now, I feel as though I've lived all over the United States---six states total! From Florida to California, I now live in Colorado with my husband and very-cuddly goldendoodle.
As a self-proclaimed "old soul and modern mind," I say that I live wild and free...until 9 pm when I'll be cozy in bed with a good book, a cup of tea, and too many blankets.
